The Vallejo Capitol Stairs Mosaic Project (VCSMP) seeks to install a mosaic mural on the risers of the Capitol Street Stairs with the purpose of beautifying this landmark, repairing the structural defects, enhancing safety by installing led lighting and cameras, and increase the economic vitality of the surrounding businesses for this residential corridor and to the benefit of the City of Vallejo.
VCSMP began when the Vallejo Community Arts Foundation (VCAF) won the City of Vallejo Participatory Budgeting (PB) grant for $24,000. VCAF, the Capitol Stairs fiscal sponsor funneled this grant to VCSMP. The grant is part of PB's Art's and Beautification, and Community Development. To meet the full cost of the maintenance, repairs, safety and esthetic improvements will cost approximately $350,000.00. This total includes in-kind donations of labor and supplies as well as monetary donations. As a Community Built Project, enthusiastic community involvement propels it to a successful completion.
Everyone can take a first step and become part of restoring and improving this Landmark for the Neighborhood for generations to come.
